What is coaching?

Coaching provides a non-judgemental, open, collaborative and confidential space between coach and client - focusing on the client’s own thoughts, challenges, outcomes and goals. It is a powerful way of exploring our personal beliefs and values, and how these are shaping our experience of life and our behaviours.

It's forward looking. So it's about taking a problem or question and finding a solution. It may well touch on the past, but the focus is very much about moving forward. It's about giving you the tools, environment and support to allow you to flourish and find your own way forward. It's about giving you a place to be listened to, to let you explore ways forward.

The International Coaching Federation defines coaching as:

"partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximise their personal and professional potential. The process of coaching often unlocks previously untapped sources of imagination, productivity and leadership."

Who will benefit from coaching?

If you are feeling stuck and want to move forward, then coaching will make a difference. Stuck setting up your own business. Stuck in your career. Stuck in a relationship. Or simply stuck in life, feeling you've lost a bit of you. If you want to move forward, coaching will have a transformational effect.

"We all have goals we want to reach, challenges we’re striving to overcome and times when we feel stuck. Partnering with a coach can change your life, setting you on a path to greater personal and professional fulfilment." International Coaching Federation.

Coaching isn't for everyone

It's worth noting that coaching isn't therapy (person centred counselling, CBT, psychology etc). It isn't about delving deeply into your past experiences, or dealing with disorders. It can work alongside therapy but coaching is not therapy. Coaching is also not mentoring. It's not about giving you the answers. It's about working together with your coach to find your way forward.
